Algebra and arithmetic quick reference
Use these reminders after a connected lesson. Reconstruct the reasoning and check conditions rather than memorizing an isolated answer.
OpenBuild a free practice set from 365 PERT-style questions. Pick a subject, a difficulty and a set size, answer at your own pace, and read the explanation for every question when you submit.
All 365 questions are multiple choice and grouped into the six PERT question types, two per subject. Most are intermediate, with foundational questions for warming up and advanced ones concentrated in algebra and reading inference.
| Question type | Questions | Foundational | Intermediate | Advanced |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Math: algebra and mathematical models | 75 | 14 | 49 | 12 |
| Math: expressions, polynomials and factoring | 50 | 11 | 35 | 4 |
| Reading: passage evidence and inference | 65 | 6 | 47 | 12 |
| Reading: purpose, vocabulary and relationships | 55 | 10 | 44 | 1 |
| Writing: revision and organization | 60 | 2 | 55 | 3 |
| Writing: grammar and sentence editing | 60 | 9 | 50 | 1 |
| Total | 365 | 52 | 280 | 33 |
This mix is how the practice bank is built, not the official PERT blueprint. The real test has 30 questions per subject and is adaptive, so the questions you see depend on your earlier answers.
A mixed set tells you where you stand; a targeted set fixes something. Use the builder in two rounds:
For each topic you keep missing, open its lesson in the free PERT course before the next set. The Math formulas sheet, reading terms sheet and grammar cheat sheet give a one-line rule and example for most topics.
On the real PERT you must answer each question before you move on, and you cannot go back to change an answer once you submit it. The question bank lets you jump between questions and change answers, which is useful for study but builds the wrong habit for test day.
So once you know the material, practice the way you will test: answer the questions in order, finish each one before moving on, and don’t return to earlier questions until you submit the set. You will learn to check your work before you commit, instead of planning to fix it later. The three PERT practice tests enforce this forward-only mode for you.
The PERT is also untimed, so there is no reason to rush. Work each question to an answer you can defend, then move on.
Use these reminders after a connected lesson. Reconstruct the reasoning and check conditions rather than memorizing an isolated answer.
OpenUse a passage to practice every check; the surrounding evidence determines the answer.
OpenThese checks support selected-response editing and passage revision. Read each choice in the complete sentence or draft.
OpenTo fit the question bank into a schedule, the PERT study plan uses it for a diagnostic on day 1 and for retests along the way.
PERT rules are set by Florida law and by each college. These are the pages this guide relies on; your testing center’s current instructions take priority.
