SHSAT: Stand-alone revising and editing

Practice stand-alone sentence revision. Official responses lock after advancing; local practice allows review so you can compare explanations.

A method you can use

  1. Read the whole sentence before isolating the marked phrase. Identify the subject and finite verb; nearby nouns do not determine agreement.
  2. Check each replacement inside the sentence. A grammatically sound phrase can still change the intended relationship or create a modifier with no logical subject.
  3. For sentence boundaries, test whether both sides are independent clauses. A comma alone cannot join them; a semicolon requires independence on both sides.
  4. Before advancing on the official test, reread the complete corrected sentence. Local practice allows review so you can compare the error behind each alternative.
