November 2026 SAT: dates, deadlines and what to expect

Last verified against College Board's dates and deadlines:

The November 2026 SAT is on Saturday, November 7, 2026. Register by October 23 for the regular $68 fee, or by October 27 with a $38 late fee. Scores come out November 20. That's too late for most November 1 and November 15 early deadlines, but in time for most regular decision deadlines in January.

Use the checker below to test your own deadlines, then read who this date suits, how to decide on a retake after October 3, and a three-week plan to test day.

November 2026 SAT key dates

The November SAT has four dates that matter: October 23, October 27, November 7 and November 20. All registration deadlines end at 11:59 p.m. ET and apply to U.S. and international test takers alike.

Registration is $68, plus $38 if you register late. International test takers pay an extra $43. Students who qualify for a fee waiver test free and don't pay late fees. If you need to borrow a testing device from College Board, the request was due 30 days before test day, so for November 7 that window has closed; for December 5 it closes around November 5.

Will November SAT scores arrive in time?

Enter a college's deadline for test scores. We compare it with the November 20 score release and with every later SAT date you can still register for.

Regular registration closes October 23, 2026; late registration closes October 27.

Common deadlines

In time. Scores come out November 20, 42 days before your January 1, 2027 deadline. That leaves time for the official report to reach the college.

Dates from College Board's test dates and deadlines and score release dates, checked October 14, 2026. "Tight" means fewer than 7 days between score release and your deadline. Colleges set their own rules, so confirm with each one.

Who should take the November SAT?

November 7 suits seniors applying regular decision and juniors who are already prepared. It doesn't suit seniors who need a new score for a November 1 or November 15 early deadline. Our view, not a College Board rule:

Seniors applying regular decision or ED II

Take it if your colleges' testing deadlines are in December or January and a higher score would move you into or above the middle of their ranges. November scores land about six weeks before a January 1 deadline, which leaves room for the official report to arrive.

Seniors with November early deadlines

Usually not for those applications. November 20 is after both November 1 and November 15. Some colleges accept a November score for an early application or let you self-report first; this varies, so read each college's testing page. A November score can still help your regular decision schools.

Juniors

Take it if your practice scores are already near your goal and an early score frees your spring. Otherwise you lose little by waiting for December 5 or March 6, 2027, when you'll have more coursework behind you. Juniors who just took the PSAT/NMSQT can use those results, released in waves from late October, to decide.

Retaking after the October 3 SAT

October 3 scores come out October 16, which leaves one week to decide before the October 23 deadline (eleven days if you register late). Make the call with three questions:

  1. Is the score below your colleges' middle range? If you're already at or above it, another sitting adds little. Put the time into essays.
  2. Is a higher score realistic in three weeks? Compare your October score with your recent timed practice scores. If practice ran 40 or more points higher, test-day nerves or pacing likely cost you, and that can be fixed quickly. If October matched your practice, gains take longer: consider December 5 instead.
  3. Do November scores arrive before your deadlines? Check with the tool above. If they don't, a retake only helps later applications.

If your colleges superscore, focus your three weeks on the weaker section; your best section score from October can still count. Check each college's superscore policy rather than assuming. You can estimate a new total from practice raw scores with our digital SAT score calculator.

A 3-week plan to November 7

Three weeks is enough to fix pacing and the two or three question types you miss most, not to relearn the test. Plan for about an hour a day on weekdays and a longer block on weekends.

November SAT format and timing

The November SAT is the same digital, adaptive test as every SAT Weekend date: 98 questions in 2 hours 14 minutes, scored 400 to 1600. You take it in the Bluebook app on a laptop or tablet.

SectionModulesQuestionsTimeScore
Reading and Writing254 (27 + 27)64 min (32 + 32)200–800
Math244 (22 + 22)70 min (35 + 35)200–800
Total4982 h 14 min + 10 min break400–1600

Each section is adaptive by module: how you do in the first module sets the difficulty of the second. Time in one module doesn't carry to the next. A built-in graphing calculator is available for all of Math, and there's no penalty for wrong answers, so answer every question.

Test-day checklist

Finish Bluebook exam setup 1–5 days before the test and no later than Friday, November 6, or you won't have the admission ticket you need to get in. Then bring:

  • Your testing device with Bluebook installed and setup done, fully charged (it should last 3–4 hours), plus a charger. Outlets aren't guaranteed.
  • Your admission ticket, printed or on your phone. Your phone is collected during the test.
  • A physical photo ID whose name and date of birth match your ticket. Digital IDs aren't accepted.
  • Pencils or pens. Scratch paper is provided. A calculator is optional because Bluebook has one.
  • Snacks, water and a watch without an alarm for the break.

Arrive at least 15 minutes before the start time on your admission ticket. If you borrowed a College Board device, arrive by 7:15 a.m. to collect and set it up. Update your device's operating system and Bluebook a few days before, not the morning of the test.

Before you leave home: admission ticket, ID, charged device, charger, pencils. If you forget the ticket, you'll have to complete setup on your device at the center, and your seat isn't held while you do.

November SAT scores and sending them

Scores for the November 7 SAT release on November 20, 2026. College Board emails you when they're ready; your school sees them in the K–12 portal on November 23. Sunday testers on November 8 should check My SAT for their release date.

You get four free score reports if you choose the colleges by November 16, nine days after the test. Picking them before you see your score costs nothing extra and gets the report to colleges soonest, which matters if a deadline is tight. After November 16, each report has a fee. Not happy with the result? Registration for December 5 closes November 20, the same day November scores come out.

Frequently asked questions

Saturday, November 7, 2026. Students who can't test on Saturdays for religious reasons can apply to take it on Sunday, November 8, 2026.

Regular registration closes October 23, 2026. Late registration, changes and regular cancellation close October 27, 2026. Deadlines end at 11:59 p.m. ET. Registration costs $68, and late registration adds a $38 fee.

College Board lists November 20, 2026 as the student score release date for the November 7 SAT. Schools and districts see scores in the K–12 reporting portal on November 23.

No. Scores release November 20, after both dates. Some colleges accept scores from later test dates for early applications or let you self-report first, so check each college's own testing deadline rather than its application deadline.

October 3 scores come out October 16, a week before the November registration deadline. Retake if your score is below the middle of your colleges' ranges, your practice tests suggest a higher score is realistic, and November scores arrive before your deadlines. If not, the December 5 SAT (scores December 18) or a spring date may fit better.

Four. You can choose or change the four free score sends until 9 days after test day, which is November 16, 2026 for the November 7 SAT. Reports ordered after that carry a fee.
