Dartmouth College SAT & ACT Scores

Dartmouth reactivated its testing requirement beginning with applicants to the Class of 2029, the students who entered in fall 2025. If you attend high school in the United States, you must send the SAT or ACT, and Dartmouth has no preference between them. If you attend high school outside the United States, you can use one of five options: the SAT or ACT, three AP exams, IB Diploma Program results, A-level results, or final results from a national exam such as the CBSE or French Baccalaureate. You may self-report scores, and enrolling students must send official scores before they arrive. Dartmouth superscores both the SAT and the ACT automatically.

The median SAT among enrolled Dartmouth first-years in the fall 2025 entering class was 1520. A quarter scored 1440 or below, and a quarter scored 1550 or above. The middle half scored 720–770 on Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and 720–790 on Math.

Dartmouth's requirement covers students entering in fall 2025 and later, so these ranges come from a class that applied with testing required at U.S. high schools. In the fall 2025 entering class, 69% of enrolled students submitted the SAT and 33% submitted the ACT. The two shares can overlap because some students send both tests, and some students from schools abroad may have used AP, IB, A-level, or national exam results instead.

Dartmouth says contextualized testing is one factor, and never the primary factor, among the many parts of an application. Because the SAT is superscored, your highest Reading and Writing score and your highest Math score from any test dates are combined. A superscore at or above 1550 matches the top quarter of enrolled students who sent the SAT.

Enrolled Dartmouth first-years who sent the ACT had a median composite of 34, and the middle half scored 32–35. The middle half scored 34–36 in English and 31–35 in Math. In the fall 2025 entering class, 33% of enrolled students submitted an ACT score.

Dartmouth superscores the required ACT sections across test dates. Its composite superscore uses only your highest English, math, and reading scores, so the science and writing sections can be sent but are not counted. For Early Decision, Dartmouth lists October as the last ACT test date; for Regular Decision, it lists December.

Dartmouth offers binding Early Decision and Regular Decision. It does not offer Early Action.

A practical target for Dartmouth is a superscored SAT of 1550 or higher, or an ACT of 35 or higher, which matches the top quarter of enrolled students who reported scores. Scores near the median of 1520 SAT or 34 ACT are typical for enrolled students. With an admit rate of 6%, a strong score by itself will not decide the outcome.
