These are different clocks: the code's 30 days run from the day it is issued, the 48 hours from the moment you start the test, and the 45 days from the day you take the PiCAT. Record the dates with your recruiter. The deadlines are published in the official applicant instructions.
What verification does
If your PiCAT scores suggest you may be eligible to enlist, you take a proctored Verification Test (Vtest) at a MEPS or MET site. It checks consistency with your remote performance. It generally takes 25 to 30 minutes and does not give you a separate reported score. Successful verification makes your PiCAT result the official ASVAB score of record. You do not see your PiCAT scores right away; only the recruiter who registered you can view them.
The current official ASVAB pages say what a successful Vtest does but not what happens after an unsuccessful one. USMEPCOM's PiCAT brochures for recruiters, the October 2016 edition (archived copy) and the December 2018 edition, said that applicants whose PiCAT scores are not verified take a full-length ASVAB, and that score becomes the score of record. Those brochures are older than the current official pages, so confirm the procedure with your recruiter and follow the testing staff's instructions about the next step.
Prepare for the work, as well as the appointment
Practice solving questions on paper and explaining your setup before checking a solution. During the actual PiCAT, follow the official guidelines: no calculator, outside help or looking up answers. A calm remote setting is useful only if the result reflects your own work.
PiCAT means Pending Internet Computerized Adaptive Test. It is an unproctored ASVAB route arranged by a recruiter, followed by supervised verification before its results can become official.
The official PiCAT guide limits it to people who have never taken the ASVAB, and it can be taken only once. Ask your recruiter to check your testing history and eligibility.
It has no individual subtest timers, but it has an overall completion deadline: finish within 48 hours after starting. The recruiter-issued access code expires 30 days after issue.
