Florida State University SAT & ACT Scores

The requirement comes from the state. Florida Board of Governors regulation 6.002 requires a test score from first-year applicants to every public university in Florida, so Florida State University has no test-optional route for most students. You must send at least one score by the materials deadline, and you can add newer scores until each plan's test score deadline. Self-report scores on the FSU Admissions Portal, because the university does not accept self-reported scores from the Common App. Florida State University superscores the SAT, ACT and CLT across test dates, and the ACT science section is not required. The one exception is a student who will finish an Associate in Arts degree through dual enrollment by high school graduation; those students can be considered without a score but are not eligible for first-year merit scholarships from the Office of Admissions.

In the fall 2025 entering class, the middle 50% of enrolled students scored 1300–1410 on the SAT, with a median of 1360. A quarter scored 1300 or below, and a quarter scored 1410 or above. Section ranges were 650–720 in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and 630–710 in Math.

Because every applicant must test, these ranges cover the whole enrolled class rather than a self-selected group. The SAT was the more common choice: 63.7% of enrolled students reported it. Keep in mind that these are enrolled students; the university's own profile of students admitted for fall 2026 shows higher ranges.

Since FSU builds a superscore from your best section scores on every test date, a lower sitting will not hurt you. A score at or above 1410 puts you in the top quarter of recent enrolled students.

36.3% of the fall 2025 entering class reported the ACT. Their middle 50% composite was 29–32, with a median of 30. English scores ran 28–34 and Math scores ran 26–30.

Florida State University no longer requires the ACT science section. The composite or composite superscore it uses for admission counts only English, Math and Reading. A composite of 32 or higher sits in the top quarter of enrolled students, while 29 marks the low end of the middle half.

For fall 2027, Florida State University offers binding Early Decision for domestic applicants outside its talent-based majors, non-binding Early Action for Florida residents only, Regular Decision and rolling admission.

You need a score to apply to Florida State University for fall 2027, so schedule the SAT, ACT or CLT early enough to meet your plan's deadline. A practical target is 1410 or higher on the SAT or 32 or higher on the ACT. Scores near 1360 or 30 put you in the middle of recent enrolled students, but the fall 2026 admitted-student profile runs higher.

Scores do not decide admission alone. Florida State University says first-year admission is holistic and selective, and that meeting the state's minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Your high school courses and grades, reported through the STARS self-reported academic record, along with your essay, activities and character, all count in the review.
