UT went test-optional in spring 2020 because testing was hard to access during the pandemic, then made the SAT or ACT required again starting with applications for fall 2025. You must have at least one official score sent from the testing agency; official Classic Learning Test (CLT) scores also meet the requirement. UT does not require the SAT essay, ACT Writing, or the ACT Science section, and it treats ACT scores with or without Science equally. UT does not superscore: it uses your highest score from a single test date. Texas students who earn automatic admission still have to send scores, which UT uses to match students to majors and to identify who may benefit from its student success programs.

UT's 2025–26 Common Data Set leaves its test score section blank, so the SAT figures here come from what UT reported to the U.S. Department of Education for students who enrolled in fall 2024. The middle 50% of those students scored 630–740 on Reading and Writing and 620–770 on Math. A quarter scored below the low end of each range, and a quarter scored above the high end. UT's federal report gives section scores only, not a combined SAT range or median.
Fall 2024 was UT's last test-optional entering class. Only 56% of enrolled students sent SAT scores, and the ranges describe only them. UT requires a test again starting with fall 2025 applicants, so ranges for later classes will draw on a wider group of students and may shift.
