Texas A&M University SAT & ACT Scores

Texas A&M has been test-optional since it dropped the requirement for 2021 entry. For spring and fall 2027 applicants, scores are not needed to complete the admission file, and the university says submitting them creates no unfair advantage or disadvantage. It does encourage students who have scores to send them, and scores must come from the testing agency. Each test is judged by your highest total from a single test date; the university does not superscore. It does not use the CLT. The admissions office intends to require the SAT or ACT again starting with spring or fall 2028 applicants. That change still needs approval from the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents, and final rules are due by the end of June 2027.

In the fall 2025 entering class, the middle 50% of enrolled students who reported the SAT scored 1160–1390, with a median of 1280. A quarter scored 1160 or lower and a quarter scored 1390 or higher. Section ranges were 580–690 in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and 570–710 in Math.

Even without a requirement, most of the class sent scores: 76.7% of enrolled students reported the SAT. That makes this range a fairly broad picture of the class, though it still leaves out students who applied without scores.

Because Texas A&M uses your best single-sitting total rather than a superscore, plan to put your strongest full test on one date. A score at or above 1280 is in the upper half of enrolled submitters, and 1390 or higher is in the top quarter.

The ACT was the less common choice: 18.7% of the fall 2025 entering class reported it. Their middle 50% composite was 24–32, with a median of 28. English scores ran 23–33 and Math scores ran 23–30.

As with the SAT, Texas A&M looks at your highest composite from a single test date and does not mix sections across dates. A composite of 32 or higher sits in the top quarter of enrolled submitters, while 24 marks the low end of the middle half.

Texas A&M has no early decision plan. College Station uses one fall application deadline and releases decisions throughout the cycle, so applying early does not guarantee an early decision.

For fall 2027 you can apply without scores. If you send them, a practical target is 1390 or higher on the SAT or 32 or higher on the ACT, the top quarter of the fall 2025 entering class. A score near 1280 or 28 matches the middle of recent enrolled submitters. If you expect to apply for 2028 or later, plan to test, since the university intends to require scores then.

Texas residents who rank in the top 10% of their class at a Texas high school qualify for automatic admission. Other applicants go through holistic review, which looks at all high school courses and grades, course rigor, GPA and class rank, plus activities, community service, leadership, work and hardships. Applicants to the College of Engineering are reviewed for placement into General Engineering.
