Wesleyan University SAT & ACT Scores

Wesleyan dropped its testing requirement for students entering in 2015, and it remains test-optional. You choose on the Common Application whether your scores should be considered. If you leave them out, Wesleyan says it will not count that against you or assume your scores are low; if you include them, they are weighed alongside your schoolwork. There is no minimum score and no preference between the SAT and ACT, and Wesleyan superscores both. The main exception is homeschooled applicants, who must send SAT or ACT results from the last twelve months.

Wesleyan does not publish a total SAT range. Its class profile reports section scores for students admitted for fall 2025: 730–770 in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and 730–790 in Math.

These figures describe admitted students who chose to have scores considered, not every admitted student, and not the students who enrolled. Because they are self-selected, they show what strong submitted scores look like at Wesleyan rather than a cutoff.

Wesleyan gives a clear rule of thumb: if your scores fall below the 25th percentile of the students it typically admits, they are unlikely to make you a more competitive applicant. For the SAT, that point is the low end of each section range above.

Among students admitted for fall 2025 who had scores considered, the middle 50% ACT composite was 34–35, with a median of 35. Wesleyan does not publish ACT section ranges.

Wesleyan superscores the ACT by taking your best score in each section across test dates and recalculating the composite. Using its own guidance, a composite below 34 is unlikely to strengthen your application, while 35 or higher is in line with the admitted students who submitted.

Wesleyan offers two binding Early Decision rounds, Early Decision I and Early Decision II, plus Regular Decision. It does not offer Early Action.

If you want your scores considered at Wesleyan, aim for at least 34 on the ACT, or SAT section scores at or above the low end of the admitted ranges (730–770 in Reading and Writing, 730–790 in Math). Wesleyan says scores below that level are unlikely to help, and applying without scores is a normal choice here.

Wesleyan says the best predictor of student success is day-to-day work in a rigorous curriculum, and that is the center of its holistic review. Course rigor and teacher recommendations count for more than class rank or test scores. Your transcript, two teacher evaluations and counselor recommendation will carry most of the weight whether or not you send scores.
